ISRAEL THE EARTHLY KINGDOM: King David
(Study 3-C)

The book of Judges is a lamentable record of backsliding into idolatry and unbelief. Without a strong leader, the people seemed to often waver in their commitment to the covenant which they received with such fear and reverence at the foot of Sinai.

Despite Yah's warnings and Samuel's pleadings, the people insisted on having a king, so that they could be like the nations around them. (1 Sam 8:6,7) So it was that the prophet and Israel's last judge awaited Yah's hand in showing him who the first king of Israel would be. While this measure seemed to work for a while in keeping the Chosen nation from the evils of worshipping foreign gods, the history of the earthly kingdom shows that only by a faith in the true King of heaven and earth can spiritual success be attained.
