(A Symbol of Unity)

“I do set my bow in the cloud, and it shall be for a token of a covenant
between me and the earth.” (Gen 9:13)

In all the wicked earth, there was but one family that remained faithful to Yah Almighty. It was not that many generations down from Adam, and the people of the earth were still a fairly close-knit community. It must have been particularly difficult for Noah to maintain a holy household amidst all the pressure to conform to the practice of the world around him, including all his friends and family.

In the society around him, Noah was not only a wonderful example of one faithful to Yah, but also a role-model for husbands and fathers to this day. “For the husband is the head of the wife, even as Christ is the head of the church: and He is the Savior of the body.” (Eph 5:23) The husband is the spiritual “head” of the household, just as Christ is the head of the Church. None is greater, but we all have our roles. Because of him, all his household – his wife, his sons and their wives also were living righteously, and were spared the judgment by water.

And why was this possible? Because his household was in harmony with him. The same holy spirit flowed through all the members of that household, and while everyone else was scoffing at the lunatic building a boat in the middle of dry land, his wife was laboring alongside him in love and duty, and his sons and their families were honoring their father with their time and energy. In a Christian family, this same unity will be seen. How can any less be expected in the family of Yahshua’s church?

Too often are differences between members of an organization viewed as material for dissension. What starts small always ends up as a big rift. If Satan is allowed ANY inroads into a gathering of faithful people, he will waste no time in dragging them into the pit with him. He knows he has no case to vindicate himself, all he is concerned with is taking as many of us as he can with him. He delights in nothing more than to drag Yahshua’s name through the mud, and we have enough examples of this among the people of God as it is.

When the floods abated and the sanctified family went forth to begin their life anew in the cleansed earth, Yah made a covenant with them that the earth would never again be destroyed by water. The planet itself follows the pattern of a man. It began in innocence and purity (Gen 1:31), it was cursed by the fall of Adam (Gen 3:18), by the faith of Noah it was spared from destruction and baptized in water (Gen 6:17). It received Christ (John 1:14) and shortly thereafter the Holy Spirit in the person of the Apostles (Acts 2:4). Soon, it will be tried and “baptized” in blood and fire (2 Peter 3:10) and then eternally ransomed back to holiness by the blood of the Redeemer. (Rev 21:1)

But just as Christ received a sign from heaven – the holy spirit in the form of a dove – after His watery baptism, so Noah was shown the rainbow after the planet’s, and Yah declared that this token was to represent the covenant that was made with the earth. Not until the very end would the earth again see such widespread destruction. But there is deeper symbolism involved here as well, another beautiful lesson and reminder of our Creator’s infinite majesty.

What is Yah the Father? He is the ultimate mystery, the Wonder of eternity, the Ancient of days. He has no creator, for He has no origin, and by Him and His second aspect, the Son, was all else made. Yah is Spirit, and among other things, He is represented to us as pure, eternal light. “This then is the message which we have heard of Him, and declare unto you, that God is light, and in Him is no darkness at all.” (1 John 1:5) Physics shows us that in the visible spectrum, perfectly balanced light is colorless, and perceived from a perfectly reflective surface as white, if diffused evenly.

What physics has also shown us is that white light is not merely white light. There is no frequency of natural light that will produce white. Instead, there needs to be a blending of all the visible frequencies in perfect balance for this effect to be seen. When white light is put through a refractive surface, the different frequencies are deflected at different angles (depending on their individual wave patterns) and thus the light is separated into its constituents.

Seven days in a holy week (Gen 2:2), seven lamps in the tabernacle (Num 8:2), seven priests bearing seven trumpets marching around Jericho seven times on the seventh day (Jos 6:4), seven locks of hair on Samson’s head (Jud 16:13), seven pipes to seven lamps in Zechariah’s vision (Zec 4:2), seven loaves to feed the many and seven baskets left over thereafter (Mat 15:36&37), seven deacons of the early church (Acts 6:3), seven churches in Asia (Rev 1:4), seven manifestations of the Spirit of Yah (Rev 4:5), seven seals of the Father’s will (Rev 5:1), seven angels bearing seven plagues, seven trumpets, seven vials... the list goes on.

The number seven represents wholeness, perfection, balance and purity. It is a symbol of completeness and harmony, all parts working in unity. So does the rainbow reveal to us the inner secrets of white light, because it, like a prism, allows us to witness the distinct colors that make up the “whiteness” of this pure light. There are seven of them.

A rainbow is also a circle. Seen from the surface of the earth, we can only witness a half of its entirety, but below the horizon, should the rain clouds continue that far, shines forth the lower section. Though we can’t see it all at once, the rainbow is a perfect, unbroken glimpse at Yah’s majesty and beauty. In the same way, our finite minds and physical eyes cannot imagine or see the providence of our Almighty Lord, but it is there, waiting to be discovered in the day that all things will be revealed.

If, for some reason, all seven colors were not present in their full strength and equal prominence, the perfection of light would be marred, and the fullness of its radiance would not be witnessed. Let us take a lesson from this, for ourselves, our families, our churches. A people united under the banner of Satan is a nation already dead. A people united for the principles of life and light will spread its glory over the world, and then will the gospel truly reach all four corners.

“And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to His purpose.” (Romans 8:28) When we are united with Christ, we are united with each other, for the Redeemer Himself willed it so when He prayed: “Neither pray I for these alone, but for them also which shall believe on me through their word; That they all may be one; as thou, Father, art in me, and I in thee, that they also may be one in us: that the world may believe that thou hast sent me. And the glory which thou gavest me I have given them; that they may be one, even as we are one: I in them, and thou in me, that they may be made perfect in one; and that the world may know that thou hast sent me, and hast loved them, as thou hast loved me.” (John 17:20-23)

If the “prayer of a righteous man availeth much” (James 5:16), imagine the prayer of the Messiah Himself! How can we fail to accept this wondrous blessing He bestowed upon the future generations of His church while He was still with us? Those who labor for Christ have the power to put away all strife and disharmony; by doing so we put on the “breastplate of righteousness” Paul speaks of in Ephesians 6:14 and can effectively withstand the attacks of the demon king.

Are envy, bitterness, rumoring, gossip... are these from Yah? The children of the Most High need to be on constant guard against these things, for we have a most horrifyingly brilliant enemy. His arts are subtle, and his assaults are tireless. If we as a people had put as much effort into doing good as he into evil, what a different world we would live in! The prince of flattery and deceit is an irresistible opponent outside of the grace of Christ, and therefore Peter warns us, “Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour.” (1 Peter 5:8)

Do you not think he is looking for every least opportunity to drive a wedge between the workers for the gospel? Ever since Calvary, Lucifer has been the sworn enemy of the church, and we are safe only so long as we, like Noah’s wife and family, are in harmony with our spiritual Leader. Let us take wisdom from one of nature’s most striking displays, and shine forth our glory, that the whole may be represented to the world in its purity and brilliance, and let all men be drawn to Christ through our love. We are beautiful, each gifted with talents and unique blessings, each our own spiritual “color,” and that beauty is never more clearly seen than when it is in perfect harmony with our Father and with our fellow man.

David.
